Alas, he is an awful plagiarist.
Eragon, and the subsuquent sequels are written by a fairly talented young man, who began writing the book at 15. For your average teen, he is a decent author, but the story is all too familar to Tokien, Mcaffrey, and Star Wars fans.
If you are new to the fantasy genre, and you are not obsessed with grammar, it would probably be a very enjooyable one-time read. And one thing going for it, is that it is better than the movie.
This is a wonderful book by a very creative young man. The story, while perhaps not completely original, is engrossing and enjoyable. Paolini's characterizations are well fleshed out and the various characters in the story are complicated and interesting. The relationships between and among each person in the story create a tale that can be read and re-read.
