Michael L. Printz Award
The 2016 Michael L. Printz Award,
given for excellence in literature written for young adults, has been awarded to
- Bone Gap, written by Laura Ruby. Bone Gap is the story of Roza, a beautiful girl who is taken from a quiet midwestern town and imprisoned by a mysterious man, and Finn, the only witness, who cannot forgive himself for being unable to identify her kidnapper.
Two Printz Honor Books also were named:
- Out of Darkness, by Ashley Hope Pérez. Set against the back drop of one of the worst school tragedies in American history, Out of Darkness is a brutal and gripping novel about race, segregation, love, and the forces that destroy people.
- The Ghosts of Heaven, by Marcus Sedgwick. Individual tales spanning centuries of time connected only by a single thread-in this case a shape; the spiral.
