This year, the Teen Summer Reading Program encourages you to look Beneath the Surface by reading! Books help dig up hidden truths and mysteries about life so who knows what you will unearth when you read!
Students who will be entering grades 6-12 in the coming school year can participate in the teen summer reading program. If you are in a lower grade, you can participate in the children’s program but those who are ages 10 or 11 can pick the program that appeals to them most! If you are finished with high school, you can participate in the adult program.
Come to the library and fill out a short registration form to get started. After you register you will receive a sign-up packet which includes a reading record. Use this reading record to keep track of your reading by marking off a square for each ½ hour you read. At the end of the month, bring your reading record to the library and turn it in to receive a prize and a new reading record. You will have the chance to complete three reading records over the course of the summer.
Every every month when you turn in your reading record, you will receive a prize as listed below. In addition, you will also be entered into a drawing to win an iPod Shuffle!
You can turn in your reading records anytime you’ve completed them for that month. June reading records must be turned in by the June deadline. July’s reading records must be turned in by July’s deadline and so forth. See deadlines below or on your reading record.
You can read anything: books, magazines, newspapers, graphic novels, etc. It all counts!
Of course! You don’t have to stop reading at 30 minutes. If you tend to read in long, marathon sessions you can mark off a square for every 30 minutes you read. This means you may be ready to turn in your card early and we are cool with that. Bring your card in when it’s complete but make sure to turn it in before each month’s deadline. Way to go, overachiever!
