Banned Books Week 2011
September 24 to October 1 is Banned Books Week!
Banned Books week is an annual event that celebrates freedom to read or the freedom to express your opinion even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular. Banned Books Week focuses on intellectual freedom and your rights to read, seek information, and speak freely as guaranteed by the First Amendment. To see a list of books that others have attempted to ban, view The American Library Association's (ALA) list of Frequently Challenged Books. While you are on the ALA website, take a look at their list of Banned and Challenged Classics. Chances are that you will find a couple of your favorites on that list.
Celebrate your freedom to read by selecting a book from this year's ALA list of banned books available at the Logan Library!

Staff Reading Pick
Here is another reading pick from the Logan Library Staff.
Book: The Woodcutter by Reginald Hill
Recommended by: Melanie, Librarian
Wolf Hadda was a self-made man. Framed for crimes he didn't commit, thrown into prison, abandoned and reviled, he retreats into silence. Seven years later he starts to talk and finally, under the watch of a prison psychiatrist, he is paroled, looking for the truth - and revenge. Beautifully written with rich characterization and wry humor, this is a superb mystery by a masterful storyteller.
