Staff Reading Pick
Book: A Fall of Marigolds by Susan Meissner
Recommended by: Karen
I like it when I learn about a new period of history that I hadn't studied before when I read historical fiction. Meissner takes the reader to Ellis Island circa 1911 to a medical ward treating immigrants with scarlet fever. Nurse Clara Wood finds herself treating a patient that is suffering the same loss she is, the death of a loved one. Meanwhile, in Manhattan 2011, widow Taryn Michaels discovers something precious that once was lost can be found. The stories are tied together with a beautiful scarf, covered in marigolds. A fascinating look at life, love and a piece of history I had never thought about before.
