Pelzer Recommended by: Jason, Adult Acquisitions The book, like those by his brother David, is a startling look at childhood in a home of severe abuse. It left me angry that such a situation could ever have happened and happy that we are hopefully much more aware of child abuse today. No child should ever be subjected to the debilitating and life crippling effects of abuse, but the book is also a wonderful story of strength and healing in its aftermath. Book: Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba Recommended by: Becky, Children's Librarian This is a chilling story of a brilliant - and bored - teenage boy who finds a notebook dropped by a shinigami (Japanese Death God). He quickly discovers that anyone whose name is written in the notebook dies, and decides to use it to rid the world of evil people. Over the course of this 12-volume graphic novel series, the boy, ironically named Light, manages to terrorize the entire world, all in the name of justice and 'making the world a better place.' It is a fascinating account of how one person, given power, can use that power for good or evil, and raises questions of what good and evil actually are. Book: Interred With Their Bones by Jennifer Lee Carrell Recommended by: Melanie, Reference Librarian Shakespearian scholar follows the clues to find a lost play by Shakespeare. Search takes her from London to Utah, Arizona, Washington D.C. and back to London. Fast paced literary thriller with lots of exciting twists. ![]() ![]() Posted By Logan Library at 3:25 PM in Category:Staff Picks
