Banned Books Week 2014
September 21 to 27 is Banned Books Week!
Banned Books week is an annual event that celebrates the freedom to read. It highlights the value of free and open access to information.
To see a list of books that others have attempted to ban, view The American Library Association's (ALA) list of Frequently Challenged Books. Also view their list of Banned and Challenged Classics. Chances are that you will find a couple of your favorites on that list.
Here is a short list of books banned or challenged in 2013-2014.

Hispanic Heritage Month / Mes de la Herencia Hispana
September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month and the Logan Library is celebrating!
Our first activity is a kids craft and puppet activity, Saturday September 20th from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM in the Lake Bonneville Room. Kids can make Guatemalan worry dolls, Mexican papel picado flags, and puppets that they can then use to create their own puppet show on our puppet stage.
We will be hosting activities throughout September and October to celebrate Hispanic Culture. Mark your calendar for the following great family activities:

Helicon West Showcases Local Authors
Authors Joni Haws, Chadd VanZanten, and Kase Johnstun will be reading from their anthology Utah Reflections: stories from the Wasatch Front at this week's Helicon West kickoff event.
Helicon West is an open-mic opportunity combined with featured speakers; a place for writers to share and learn alike. Creative writers are invited to read up to seven minutes of their original work. Arrive early to sign up. Sponsored by the USU Writing Center and the Logan Library.
Readings are free, open to the public and uncensored.
When: Thursday September 11th at 7:00 PM
