Book: Archetype : a novel by M. D. Waters

Recommended by: Melanie

Set in a futuristic dystopian world, a woman awakens with no memory of her life before--only a voice in her head telling her things are not as they seem. Is her husband her worst enemy or best friend? She has terrible nightmares about a different world where she is trapped. The dreams intensify and become daytime flashes of memory. A suspenseful story that kept me guessing right up to the end! It finishes with a cliffhanger, but don't worry there is a sequel, Prototype.

Book: The Boxcar Children Beginning: The Aldens of Fair Meadow Farm by Patricia MacLachlan

Recommended by: Karen, Assistant Director

Recently I was able to visit some old friends, the Boxcar children that were created by Gertrude Chandler Warner. Patricia MacLachlan gave the children a new voice by giving them a beginning. She writes: "Before they were the Boxcar Children, Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny Alden lived with their parents at Fair Meadow Farm. Although times are hard, the Aldens are happy - the best family of all, Mama likes to say." What a treat! Read it aloud with your children today.

Book: A Morbid Taste for Bones by Ellis Peters

Recommended by: Joseph, Adult Nonfiction Librarian

In this first novel of Brother Cadfael, the medieval monk and amateur sleuth, Peters takes us along as the Benedictine brothers travel to a small Welsh village in order to claim the relics of a neglected saint as their own. But when the community's most outspoken opponent of the relocation is murdered, Cadfael sets out to discover the killer and ends up becoming involved in the miracles attendant upon the saint. A wonderful, short mystery that has become a classic in the genre.

The television adaptation starring Derek Jacobi is also highly recommended.
