![]() Here is another reading pick from the Logan Library Staff. Book: Henry Clay: The Essential American by David S. Heidler and Jeanne T. Heidler Recommended by: Ronald Jenkins, Library Director For most of us, when we hear the name Henry Clay, we think of the Great Compromiser. We would be correct, but he was much, much more than that. He served in Congress for 49 years, served as the Secretary of State under John Quincey Adams, and ran for President on five different occasions. He was also very much a family man, married to Lucretia Hart, having eleven children, seven of whom died while young. This new biography by David and Jeanne Heidler captures the life of Henry Clay like no other. A truly fascinating look back at a man whose influence on American history was profound.
