William Evans, Jr. was born 17 May 1888 in Logan, Utah to William Evans and Emma Rachel Williams. He married Mabel Wealthy Wilcox 18 January 1911 in Logan, Utah and they had five children. He died 13 December 1968 in Logan, Utah and is buried in the Logan Cemetery.[1]
Mr. Evans attended Brigham Young College in Logan graduating in 1907. He worked for Logan City as an office manager. For two terms he served as mayor of Logan. He was a partner in the establishment of the Humphrey and Evans Motor Co. and was the manager of the Blair Motor Company. He was affiliated with his father, William, and his brother Benjamin W. Evans in the business of Wm Evans & Sons, distributors of coal and ice. The business was located at 166 North 6th West in Logan. William and Mabel Evans lived at 171 North 5th West. [2]
He had served as president of Ellis School PTA, as a member of the Logan City Board of Education for 10 years, and had been a director at Sunshine Terrace and for a number of years as secretary-treasurer. He was a member and past president of Logan Rotary Club, a member of the Logan Golf and Country Club and he was chairman of the County Cancer Drive.
Mr. Evans was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a Temple officiator, and had been Cache Stake Sunday School superintendent, a secretary of the three stake LDS Welfare Farm, and served in the bishopric of the Third Ward and was bishop for a number of years. [3] From 3 December 1939 to Oct 26 1941, he served as the first councilor in the Cache Stake Presidency with President Alma Sonne and second councilor Franklin D. Richards[4] and was a member of the Cache Stake High Council for 33 years.
