John A. Crockett

John A. Crockett was born 18 April 1874 in Logan, Utah, the son of Alvin Crockett and Annie Naomi Peel. He married Anna Dorothea Elizabeth Hansen of Denmark, 1 May 1895 in Logan, Utah and they are the parents of nine children. He died 6 June 1948 in Logan, Utah and is buried in the Logan Cemetery.[1]

John A. Crockett, engaged in the abstract, insurance and loan business in Logan, the son of Alvin Crockett, a native of Fox Island, Maine. His mother was a native of Yorkshire England.She came to the United States with her widowed mother and they crossed the plains in the second company that made the trip.

Mr. Crockett was indebted to the district school system of Cache County for the early educational opportunities which he enjoyed. He afterward attended the Brigham Young College, also the Utah Agricultural College at Logan and on completing the business course in the latter institution was graduated with the class of 1891. Following his course there he became instructor in dairying in the school and there remained for a period of nine years. At the end of that time he entered the real estate and insurance business, and was an abstract agent.He built up a very substantial business and was accorded a most liberal clientage. The family residence was at No. 82 South Crockett Avenue, where Mr. Crockett owned a pleasant home.

Mr. Crockett was formerly a member of the Quartermasters Division and was stationed in France.At the outbreak of the war he enlisted in the Second Engineers Corps Company F, in 1917 and was among the first boys who went to France from Utah, doing active duty there in defense of the colors. During the period of the war he served as chairman of the eight ward defense committee and gave most earnest and helpful support to all war measures and interests

In politics he maintained an independent course, voting for men and measures rather than party. He served as city commissioner of Logan, to which position he was elected in the fall of 1916, assuming the duties of the office on the 1st of January, 1917. His church relationship was with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he served as superintendent of the Sunday school of the eighth ward.His military record covered service as a sergeant in the Utah National Guard about 1904. He belonged to the Logan Commercial Boosters Club and was deeply interested in all those activities which have to do with the upbuilding and development of the city along line leading to its permanent good.From the age of sixteen years he was dependent upon his own resources and persistent effort and energy that brought him to the place which he occupied as one of the representative residents of Logan.[2] John A. Crockett was a former Logan City mayor and prominent community builder and businessman.[3]
