Heart Beats

This exhibition combines Beat writers with little magazines and the artwork of the period sourced from NEHMA's collection and the Merrill-Cazier Library to communicate the interconnectedness of the entire Beat artistic scene.

Exhibition runs from November 21st through February 1st.

The Beat artists represented in this exhibition embody unique expressions of the artistic rebellion that rocked American culture during the 1950s and can be considered individual beats within the pulsating “Beat heart.” Poet Allen Ginsberg’s first public reading of his poem “Howl,” at the Six Gallery in San Francisco on October 7, 1955, triggered an unanticipated explosion of emotional energies unleashed by his denouncement of spiritual emptiness and blind conformity to a growing capitalist, materialist society.

Logan Tabernacle Christmas Concert Series

The Logan Tabernacle presents its 2019 Christmas Concert Series. All performances are free and open to the public. Most performances begin at 7:00 pm.

Sleigh Rides at Hardware Ranch WMA

Hardware Ranch WMA offers a unique opportunity to get close to Rocky Mountain Elk on a horse drawn sleigh. Dec 6, 2019 until Feb 9, 2020, Hardware Ranch is open Fri 12 noon - 4:30pm, and Sat & Sun 10am - 4:30pm. Tickets are sold in the Visitors Center. $5 ages 9 & up, $3 ages 4-8, 3 & under FREE!

USU Exhibit: Haikus, Modernism and Stanton MacDonald-Wright's

Stanton MacDonald-Wright’s “Haiga Portfolio” (1965-1966) blends Eastern and Western influences, pairing vibrant modernist paintings with haikus written by some of Japan’s most influential poets.

USU Exhibit: Sky Above, Earth Below

Sky Above, Earth Below traces the development of western landscape photography from the late 19th century to the 21st century, starting with early American photographers like Myra Albert Wiggins, Edward Curtis, and Karl Struss and concluding with contemporary photographers like Barry Andersen, Kimberly Anderson, Karalee Kuchar, and Charlotte Trolinger. The exhibition includes work from members of the Seattle Camera Club, FSA (Farm Security Administration), f/64 (a group of 20th-century photographers known for precise exposures and depiction of natural forms) and contemporary photography portfolios such as American Roads (printed in 1981), The Museum Project (printed in 2015), and DEMARCATION (printed in 2018).

The event is free and open to the public.

USU Exhibition: Latinx from the NEHMA Collection

Latinx works of art represent a growing part of the NEHMA collection and reflect a significant influence in Western American art. New acquisitions by Yolanda Gonzalez, Leo Limón, Paul Sierra and Eloy Torrez will be featured in Latinx from the Collection as well as a grouping of paños, artworks created on handkerchiefs by artists incarcerated in Texas penitentiaries.

Latinx from the NEHMA Collection is co-curated by USU Art History Professor Alvaro Ibarra and NEHMA Curator of Collections and Exhibitions Bolton Colburn.

Join us on the first Saturday of each month from 10:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. Topics change every month! Learn traditional dances, listen to music, eat authentic food, and make fun hands-on arts and crafts projects! Programs are designed to be entertaining for the whole family. Arts and crafts activities are selected to engage kids from ages 3 to 12 and those who are young at heart. Best of all, our Family 1st Saturdays programs are FREE!

    • Homes are where the heart is! Join us as we take a leap back into time and learn about different styles of homes across the world! If you've ever wondered why houses look the way they do, you won't want to miss this!
  • March 2nd:
    • Culture of the Maya! You'd be surprised what the Mayans did and why! Come by and find out how advanced their culture really was.
  • April 6th:
    • Egyptians Death on the Nile! Join us as we explore what happened on the infamous Nile River! Come and help us build our Egyptian sarcophagus exhibit! You voted and we listened! This exhibit was the #1 most requested theme.
  • May, 4th:
    • Vikings! You think you know everything about Vikings? Join us and break myths about their history. Come by and don't be shy! We have have plenty of hands on activities.
  • June 1st:
    • Horses and Humans! Have you ever wondered how they became such good partners? Come to our monthly event and find out why! Come ready to learn and play. There will be activities for all ages!
  • July 6th:
    • Have you ever been to the land down under, AKA Australia? If not come by this Saturday and explore the diverse cultures and history from this country. Australia is a special country that we often don't hear much about. Come by and find out why it is so unique!
  • August 3rd:
    • Join us in the Museum of Anthropology as we explore the world of women's rights and efforts to resolve inequality. Participate in our some activities and check out the museum's exhibits!
  • September 7th:
    • Games, History of Fun! If you love games you'll love this event! Join us as we explore games throughout the world and how they are played.
  • October 12th:
    • Start the Halloween season off right by coming to our Mythical Creatures event! Join us as we dress up as our favorite creatures and learn more about them! Costumes are optional and please dress family friendly.
  • November 2nd:
    • Our favorite event of them all! Join us as we explore culture through food. Come hungry and bring a friend! We do this event once a year and it is always a hit! Don't miss out!
  • December 7th:
    • Weaving & Beading!
