8:00 AM Cache Makers: Lasers and Leather

This four week course will open young minds to the advantages of technology and the beauty of hand tooled leather work! Students will learn about digital design using CAD and hand tooling techniques through the design and build of a project of their design. Students will be responsible to provide supplies needed for their project. Tools will be supplied for tooling, digital design, and laser etching.

5 participants maximum.Participants must be enrolled in 4-H online.

A MANDATORY orientation meeting will be held February 9th.

  • We will be writing poetry and making zines inspired by the exhibition Haikus, Modernism, and Stanton McDonald-Wright. Featuring Taylor Fang, a Logan High School student and National Student Poet. The activity is free and open to the public and all ages are welcome. All materials will be provided.

11:00 AM Canyon Conversations Series (SNC)

Canyon Conversations is a free lecture series connecting people to local resources and research. The winter series will be held at USU in the Quinney NR Building.

  • January 25th: Winter Tracking
    • Join USU professor Mark Larese-Casanova to learn about winter tracking! Learn how to identify tracks what to look for and other signs left behind by wildlife. Even a dusting of snow can reveal the stories of wildlife in winter. It’s a bit like solving a mystery.
  • February 1st: Where the Wild Things Are
    • USU’s Dr Tal Avgar will be joining us for “Where the Wild Things Are” What We Can Learn from Tracking Wildlife. Dr. Avgar is a movement ecologist who studies the consequences of animal movement and behavior Join us as we continue our conversation on wildlife tracking from a researchers perspective.
  • February 8th: Geologic History of Cache Valleys
    • Stokes Nature Center Canyon Conversations. Can rocks tell a story? If so what are they saying. USU’s emeritus geology professor Robert Oaks will be joining us to tell us this story as we explore the geologic history of Cache Valley.
  • February 15th: Beavers
    • Jack Green will be joining us to discuss beavers. Beavers are natural engineers who create habitat for many other wildlife species. Jack will take us on a journey into the beaver’s pond and habitat.
  • February 22nd: Threats to the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem
    • Dr Wayne Wurtsbaugh will be joining us to explore threats to the continued functions of the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem such as nutrient run-off and metal pollution.
  • February 29th: Where the Wild Things Are
