Heart Beats

This exhibition combines Beat writers with little magazines and the artwork of the period sourced from NEHMA's collection and the Merrill-Cazier Library to communicate the interconnectedness of the entire Beat artistic scene.

Exhibition runs from November 21st through February 1st.

The Beat artists represented in this exhibition embody unique expressions of the artistic rebellion that rocked American culture during the 1950s and can be considered individual beats within the pulsating “Beat heart.” Poet Allen Ginsberg’s first public reading of his poem “Howl,” at the Six Gallery in San Francisco on October 7, 1955, triggered an unanticipated explosion of emotional energies unleashed by his denouncement of spiritual emptiness and blind conformity to a growing capitalist, materialist society.

There will be an opening reception November 20th, 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Refreshments to be served.

6:00 PM Cache County Master Gardener Classes Begin

Do you enjoy gardening and working with people? Be trained by Utah State University Extension and volunteer to provide information and assistance on sustainable/healthy gardening practices to residents of Cache County.

Master Gardener volunteer training consists of an in-class lecture series from mid-January through April each year. Classes are offered in multiple county locations and range from 2-3 hours in length. Master Gardeners receive 13 weeks of college-level lecture and hands on training taught by Utah State University Extension Specialists and Extension Faculty. After completion of the training, USU Master Gardeners are required to provide a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service back to their community.

6:30 PM Nordic United Social and Fundraiser

Join us for dinner, live music, and a raffle & silent auction as we celebrate another winter season and raise funds to continue our efforts in Cache Valley.

Nordic United is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and provide non-motorized winter recreation opportunities in the Cache Valley area of northeastern Utah. This fundraiser will help us continue to groom the trails you love to ski!
