Friends of the Logan Library Public Big Book Sale

Mark your calendar for the Friends of the Logan Library Public Big Book Sale held at the library on Friday and Saturday, May 1st and 2nd, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 2nd, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Lake Bonneville Room.

Books purchased from Lake Bonneville Room will be sold at the price of $5.00 for a grocery-size plastic bag of books.

The Friends of the Logan Library Bookstore will also be open during the book sale, but will offer the regular prices of $1.00 for hardbacks and .50 cents for paperbacks. We accept cash and personal checks.

It's time to stock up on some good books to read! Mark your calendars and come on down to the Friends of the Logan Library Book Sale.

The Brigham City Museum of Art & History is located at 24 North 300 West in Brigham City. The facility is in the lower level of the Senior/Community Center. The entrance is on the west side. From Interstate 15, take the Forest Street exit and travel east to 300 West. The museum is on the corner of Forest Street and 300 West.

2014 Call for Artists

August 21 - 27, 2014 - Bring canvases and other materials to museum to be stamped (Tuesday - Friday 11am - 6pm, Saturday 1-5pm)

August 22 through August 28, 2014 - Create artworks outdoors.

August 28 through August 30, 2014 – Works accepted at museum. (All work to be entered in the show must be at the museum by 5pm on Saturday, August 30.)

Open to all ages.

Winners in painting and drawing category will receive $1,000, first place; $500, second place; and $350, third place.

Winners in the photography category will receive $450, first place; $250, second place; and $150, third place.

Artworks must be two-dimensional and produced outdoors in Utah (no studio retouching).

Entry fee for painters and draftspeople is $35; photographers, $20.

Artists can submit two works which must be stamped and ready to hang at time of submission. (No claw hangers! Should have good quality picture hanging wire attached with d/o or similar rings.)

There is a limit of six stamps per person.

Photographers must submit EXIF data with prints. (Please submit a print that is ready to hang, as well as the original image on a cd or dvd.)

Maximum size is 30 inches on the long side for all works.

Artworks accepted for exhibition will hang in the museum September 4 - October 4, 2014. The show will be juried (juror tba).

Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.

“En plein air” is a French expression that refers to the 19th century style of painting outdoors.

7:00 PM Helicon West Summer Edition

Helicon West is an open-mic reading/featured readers series for local poets and writers. Creative writers are invited to read up to 7 minutes of their original work. Arrive early to sign up. Readings are free, open to the public and uncensored.

Helicon West provides a regularly-scheduled place and time for members of the writing community to give their work a public voice, with no restrictions on levels of skill and no censorship of ideas or craft. Publication of readers' work is a main goal.

Sponsored by the USU Writing Center and the Logan Library.
