Utah Quilt Guild 40th Anniversary Exhibition (Brigham)

A kaleidoscope in fabric, minus the mirrors and bits of glass, awaits visitors to the Brigham City Museum during the Utah Quilt Guild’s Ruby Jubilee Exhibition Jan. 28 through March 25. Admission is free. More than 40 chapters in the guild, which is celebrating its 40th birthday, are represented in the exhibition. Barbara Walsh of Woodland Hills coordinated the event. Walsh, a past president of the guild, says, “Our organization is the first state quilting guild organized in America.”

6:30 PM Controlling Red Air With A Gas Tax

The Cache Clean Air Consortium and USU Sustainability Council are sponsoring a presentation by Dr. Arthur Caplan, Department of Applied Economics and USU College of Agriculture & Applied Sciences, entitled Controlling RED Air with a Gas Tax: the case of Cache County, Utah.

This presentation is based on research conducted by Dr. Caplan & a former graduate student which estimates the social net benefit of controlling red air days in Cache Valley through a seasonal gas tax. The health benefits associated with cleaner air as drivers reduce vehicle use in response to higher gas prices will be part of the discussion.

7:00 PM The Vagina Monologues

An Obie Award-winning whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone, The Vagina Monologues introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a six-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it.”

Every year V-Day invites activists in colleges, communities, high schools, or youth groups around the world to present select benefit events. The purpose of these events is to raise awareness about violence against women and girls as well as raise money (100% of the proceeds must be donated) for local beneficiaries that are working to end violence.
