3:00 PM Progenitors of the New Age: Mysticism and California Art
California has long been a focal point of alternative religious and spiritual thought. By the mid-twentieth century a number of such influences had come together under the moniker of The New Age. This concert will explore, both visually and aurally, two such fundamental influences: Zen Buddhism and Alchemy. Repertoire will include the Utah premiere of California composer Byron Adamss Variationes alchemisticae for flute, viola, cello and piano, as well as works by Toru Takemitsu and Maurice Durufle performed by members of the Utah Symphony Brant Bayless, Caitlyn Valovick Moore, and Jason Hardink, as well as USU faculty Anne Francis Bayless and Chilali Hugo.
