VITA, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, is a program implemented through the statewide Earn It. Keep It. Save It. Coalition made up of local community partners. The coalition works to recruit volunteers that provide free tax preparation services to low to moderate-income households.
In addition the coalition seeks out sites, educates the public about VITA, and works to offer financial education to help families out of poverty. In 2009, more than 14,500 free returns were completed by over 650 volunteers helping Utahns claim more than $5.6 million in EITC and other tax credits. Additionally $2.1 million estimated tax preparation fees were saved.
Each year free tax assistance is available in Logan from February 1st through April 15th.
VITA sites usually include Division of Workforce Services, Bridgerland Literacy, and Bear River Association of Governments. If you are interested in scheduling an appointment, call 211 (just like 411 or 911).
