ALA Children's Book Awards 2016 Winners

Matt de la Peña won the Newbery Medal for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children for his book, "Last Stop on Market Street," in which CJ's journey with his Nana is not just a simple bus ride; it is a multi-sensory experience through which he discovers that beautiful music, nature and people surround him.

Sophie Blackall won the Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children for her illustrations for "Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World's Most Famous Bear," written by Lindsey Mattick. It's an incredible account of the friendship and love shared between a soldier and the real bear who inspired Winnie-the-Pooh.

Congratulations to the winners!
