Computers
The Logan Library has 16 computers with Internet access and office software for public use. We also have an assistive technology computer for blind and visually impaired patrons, and we provide wireless internet access throughout the Library.
Signing up For a Computer
A Logan Library Card is required to sign-up for a computer. We also offer visitors a one-time computer guest pass for $1.00.
Time Limits
The maximum computer session is 60 minutes. When your time ends you may make another session.
Saving Your Work
To protect your privacy, files saved on the computer's hard drive are erased after each computer session. Once the session expires there is no way to retrieve unsaved information or information saved on the computer's hard drive.
The best way to save your work is on a USB flash drive or a CD. CD-RWs are available for $1.00 at the Reference Desk. The computers also have readers for memory cards and memory sticks for most digital cameras and portable devices. Our computers do not have floppy disk drives. However, we do have portable floppy disk drives available at the Reference Desk.
Printing
All of the computers print to a high-quality color laser printer. Black and White printouts are 10 cents per page. Color printouts are 25 cents per page.
Software
The following software is available on the computers:
- Microsoft Word: word processing software for typing documents such as resumes, letters and school reports.
- Microsoft Excel: software used to create spreadsheets and charts.
- Microsoft PowerPoint: software used to prepare slide shows and presentations.
- Microsoft Publisher: desktop publishing software used to create documents such as cards, posters and newsletters.
- Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla FireFox: web browsers for surfing the Internet
Assistive Technology Computer
In addition to our 16 public computers, we have an assistive technology computer for use by blind and visually impaired patrons. This computer has the following software installed on it:
- JAWS: software that reads aloud text from a computer screen.
- Kurzweil: software that scans printed materials and reads it aloud

Policies
Computer users agree to the following computer policies and any other posted policies:
- Restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
- Viewing or downloading pornographic, obscene, or illegal materials is not allowed.
- Do not make changes to the setup or configuration of software or hardware.
- Do not turn off computers. Report problems to the Reference Librarian on duty.
- Computers are available from 10:00 am to 5 minutes before closing.
Violation of any of these rules may result in loss of computer privileges.
