To be honest, I only got this book because it was free and only listened to it because I was between books and making candles. Like all of Dickens' work, it uses a British dialect that you have to get used to - and even then, it can be a bit difficult to understand. This work also parallels "A Christmas Carol," but with a poor protagonist and with some elements that could be considered even darker (the abuse of women and suicide, for example). It's a pretty short read/listen, however, and if you are tired of "A Christmas Carol" at Christmas, you can always skip it and go for "The Chimes" (which focuses on New Year's).
