The Caldecott Award is named in honor of Randolph J. Caldecott, a 19th-Century illustrator renowned for his children's picture books. The award is given annually to the illustrator of "the most distinguished American picture book for children," chosen from those published in the United States during the previous year. It is awarded by the American Library Association. The recipient must be a citizen or resident of the United States. |
