ENCHANTMENT by Orson Scott Card. An imaginative retelling of the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty that follows one man from ninth-century Russia to present-day America as he struggles to rescue a princess and her kingdom, find true love, and overcome the blackest of evil.

THE HUNDRED FOOT JOURNEY by Richard C. Morais. The story of Hassan Haji, a boy from Mumbai, who ends up opening an Indian restaurant in a quiet French village that triggers a culinary war with the fancy haute cuisine place opposite. An appetizing tale for certain!

THE STORIED LIFE OF A. J. FIKRY by Gabrielle Zevin. THE BOYS IN THE BOAT: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times. Drawing on the boys' own journals and vivid memories of a once-in-a-lifetime shared dream to become a winning Olympic rowing team, Brown has created an unforgettable portrait of an era, a celebration of a remarkable achievement, and a chronicle of one extraordinary young man's personal quest.

MY STORY by Elizabeth Smart. On June 5, 2002, 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart, daughter in a close-knit Mormon family, was taken from her home in the middle of the night by religious fanatic, Brian David Mitchell and his wife, Wanda Barzee. She was kept chained, dressed in disguise, repeatedly raped, and told she and her family would be killed if she tried to escape. After her rescue on March 12, 2003, she rejoined her family and worked to pick up the pieces of her life. This is her courageous and inspirational story of survival.

THE FAVORED DAUGHTER: One Woman's Fight to Lead Afghanistan into the Future by Fawzia Koofi. The nineteenth daughter of a local village leader in rural Afghanistan, Koofi was left to die in the sun after birth by her mother. But she survived, and perseverance in the face of extreme hardship has defined her life ever since. Despite the abuse of her family, the exploitative Russian and Taliban regimes, the murders of her father, brother, and husband, and numerous attempts on her life, she rose to become the first Afghani woman Parliament speaker. Here, she shares her amazing story.
