In 1880, by city ordinance, a fire department was created in Logan with E.W. Curtis as the first chief. In August 1883 just before the temple was dedicated, the Logan Firemen's Brass Band, pictured here, ascended to the roof of the temple and played a concert which in the words of the Logan Journal "caused beautiful strains of music to float down over the city." The firemen are standing in front of the hand-pump wagon and hose cart. Behind those pictured are the bell tower and the south side of the Cache County Courthouse.
