Banned Books Week 2013
![]() ![]() September 22 to 28 is Banned Books Week! Banned Books week is an annual event that celebrates freedom to read or the freedom to express your opinion even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular. Banned Books Week focuses on intellectual freedom and your rights to read, seek information, and speak freely as guaranteed by the First Amendment. To see a list of books that others have attempted to ban, view The American Library Association's (ALA) list of Frequently Challenged Books. While you are on the ALA website, take a look at their list of Banned and Challenged Classics. Chances are that you will find a couple of your favorites on that list. Celebrate your freedom to read by selecting a book from a list of banned books available at the Logan Library: Fiction, Nonfiction, Teen or Children. ![]() ![]() Posted By Logan Library at 11:09 AM / Category:Events

Staff Reading Pick
![]() ![]() Here is another reading pick from the Logan Library Staff. Book: The Girl You Left Behind by JoJo Moyes Recommended by: Lois Captivating and bittersweet, THE GIRL YOU LEFT BEHIND is an incredible story! The parallel narrative that's so popular in historical fiction weaves two stories perfectly. In 1916 Sophie, whose husband is in the battlefield, lives with her family in a German-occupied French village. In 2006 Liv, a young widow who can't stop mourning her husband's sudden death, lives alone in London. Sophie and Liv are linked by one haunting painting, The Girl You Left Behind, Sophie's portrait by her beloved artist husband - and a century later a honeymoon gift to Liv. Get out the tissues and give this book a try. Betrayal, evil, greed and hope wrapped up in one gorgeous, heartbreaking story. I loved it! Want more reading suggestions?
