New Library Director
Please allow me to introduce myself.
Hailing originally from Ogden, Utah, I moved with my parents to Kingman, Arizona in 1976. After completing high school there, I earned a Bachelors Degree from Southern Utah University, and had planned to teach and coach thereafter.
While at college, for one of my part time jobs I ended up as a work study student reference assistant in the college library. I was fascinated by the research aspects of my duties, including the use of online databases (OCLC in particular) and discovered the great satisfaction that comes from helping library patrons meet their information needs. Without really realizing it, I was becoming hooked.
As I neared graduation, I became aware of and applied for a job with the State Library of Utah as a bookmobile librarian. That led to a 4 year stint in the Uintah Basin, serving the good folks of that region through bookmobile library services.
It was also during that time that I determined to make librarianship my profession and career. I was fortunate enough to secure a position with Weber County Library System and earn a Master of Library Science Degree from Brigham Young University.
From there I became the Director of Library Services for Mohave Community College back in Kingman. Over the next 16 years, while continuing to oversee the library, I served in other positions as well for the college, including a 2 year appointment as Dean of Student and Learning Support Services.
In 2006, I moved across town and returned to public library services when I became the Director of Mohave County Library, which was my last place of employment.
During my library career, I have also served in various capacities in multiple professional associations and organizations, including the Arizona Library Association, the Mountain Plains Library Association, the Mohave Library Alliance and on the Board of Amigos Library Services, Inc. and the Global Council of OCLC.
I now look very much forward to returning to Utah, and am honored for the opportunity to serve as the Director of the Logan City Library. From my youth, I have thought highly of Logan and its surrounding areas. I know that much good has already been done through the services provided by the dedicated staff, library board and city leaders there, and I intend to do my part to build on this rich tradition.
I will be seeing you soon!

Staff Reading Pick
Here is another reading pick from the Logan Library Staff.
Book: The Emerald Atlas by John Stephens
Recommended by: Becky, Children's Librarian
Three children have been raised in a series of orphanages since being abandoned by their parents, and finally end up in a mysterious mansion where they discover an old book which allows them to travel through time, catapulting them into an adventure filled with mystery, mayhem, and magic. When I started reading this, my hopes weren't too high - reviewers had said it reminded them of many other fantasy novels including "The Golden Compass," "Harry Potter," "The Hobbit," and the "Narnia" books, and I was afraid it would be derivative and cliched. It's not. This is a completely original fantasy novel with an incredible adventure story, interesting characters, and writing that makes me feel like I'm watching a movie. Moments of horror and humor are blended seamlessly into the mix. Although it's aimed at middle-school-age readers, I highly recommended it for fantasy-novel fans of all ages.
