National Library Week and Events
clear

This week is National Library Week! First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. This year's theme is You Belong @ Your Library. To celebrate, we have three special events planned:

On Monday, April 9th, we will be kicking off our Monday Night is Movie Night program by showing Puss in Boots at 6:30 PM in the Jim Bridger Room! Visit our Community Events Calendar for more information.

Next, on Thursday, April 12th at 7 PM, USU students will be presenting on the life of May Swenson and her connection to Logan City. Books from the May Swenson Project will be for sale after the event.

Last, local children's author Michelle L. King will be at the Logan Library on Saturday, April 14th, at 11:00 AM. She will read from her books "Barrett's Unusual Ice Cream Party" and "Mr. Percy's Mysterious Glasses." Copies of the books will be available to purchase and have signed by the author.

We hope to see you in the Logan Library for National Library Week!

Bookcover: Finding Everett Ruess: The Life and Unsolved Disappearance of a Legendary Wilderness ExplorerHere is another reading pick from the Logan Library Staff.

Book: Finding Everett Ruess: The Life and Unsolved Disappearance of a Legendary Wilderness Explorer by David Roberts

Recommended by: Joseph, Nonfiction Librarian
When Everett Ruess was still in his teens in the early 1930s, he began taking long solo journeys across California and the desert Southwest. Drawn by a love of nature and an obsession with beauty, the young poet and painter led his burros up rocky mountain trails and across scorching deserts. But on one such journey that had taken him into southern Utah, Ruess disappeared forever, leaving only cryptic clues as to his fate. Author David Roberts takes us along Ruess' journeys, eventually becoming part of the continuing search for what happened to the young explorer. Recommended if you enjoyed Krakauer's Into the Wild.

Note: If you like the book or think you might, you may also be interested in seeing some of Everett Ruess' Block Prints on display at the Merrill-Cazier Library on the Utah State University Logan campus until April 29th. The exhibit includes a selection of block prints created by artist and writer Everett Ruess, depicting his travels throughout the western United States in the early 20th century.
