Book: Polar Dream: The First Solo Expedition by a Woman and Her Dog to the Magnetic North Pole
 by Helen Thayer

Recommended by: Melanie
In 1988, at the age of 50, Helen Thayer became the first woman in the world to travel on foot to the magnetic North Pole. Her only companion was Charlie, her loyal husky, who was integral to her survival. This is the story of their heroic trek and extraordinary relationship as they faced polar bears, unimaginable cold, and a storm that destroyed most of their supplies and food. I first read this many years ago and still think of it often. I am inspired by her courage and determination.

Bookcover: 26 rounds for kellyHere is another reading pick from the Logan Library Staff.

Book: 26 Rounds for Kelly
by Brent Weaver

Recommended by: Debbie
Why does God let bad things happen to good people?  Diagnosed with a rare bone cancer at the age of 27, Brent Weaver shares the insights he gained into this universal question as he talks about the physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles he endured during his 2 1/2 year battle. In the end, his goal was to stay alive long enough to finish this book.  He felt strongly that by sharing his story and describing the things that he learned, his words might bring comfort to others facing the life-shattering experience of cancer. Brent was my cousin, so naturally I am biased, but I do believe that this book can bring the comfort he hoped it would, as well as a better understanding of what cancer patients really go through.

Book: Fritz Danced the Fandango
by Alicia Potter

Recommended by: Laura
Fritz, a talented little goat, is not appreciated by his herd. Fritz decides he needs a new herd, one who won't mind the clippity-clop of his dancing. On his journey through the mountainside Fritz meets other animals with talents as unique as his own, and discovers that what makes you different can bring you closer to those you love.
