Bookcover: The Emerald AtlasHere is another reading pick from the Logan Library Staff.

Book: The Emerald Atlas by John Stephens
Recommended by: Becky, Children's Librarian
Three children have been raised in a series of orphanages since being abandoned by their parents, and finally end up in a mysterious mansion where they discover an old book which allows them to travel through time, catapulting them into an adventure filled with mystery, mayhem, and magic.  When I started reading this, my hopes weren't too high - reviewers had said it reminded them of many other fantasy novels including "The Golden Compass," "Harry Potter," "The Hobbit," and the "Narnia" books, and I was afraid it would be derivative and cliched.  It's not.  This is a completely original fantasy novel with an incredible adventure story, interesting characters, and writing that makes me feel like I'm watching a movie.  Moments of horror and humor are blended seamlessly into the mix.  Although it's aimed at middle-school-age readers, I highly recommended it for fantasy-novel fans of all ages.

Bookcover: RedwallHere is another reading pick from the Logan Library Staff.

Book: Redwall by Brian Jacques
Recommended by: Joseph, Nonfiction Librarian
For some reason I waited decades to read this book and thankfully it didn't let me down. Join the novitiate mouse Matthias as he struggles to protect Redwall Abbey from evil and fulfill his warrior destiny! Vivid characters and a traditional good vs. bad plot make for an exciting adventure for older children.
