The Bluebird Restaurant and Candy Company

Founded in 1914, the Bluebird Restaurant and Candy Company was established by Guy Cardon and Mark Neuberger. It began as a candy store, ice-cream parlor and soda fountain located at 12 West Center Street, in the Eccles Hotel and Thatcher Bank building.

The Book Table

This two story brick building was built in 1914 by George W. Thatcher and originally housed one of the valley's most distinctive women's department stores: Shamhart and Christensen's. In 1986 the building became The Book Table.

The Roxy Theater

about 1960
The Roxy Theater opened October 23, 1935. It was built especially for motion pictures with a Motiograph wide-range talking apparatus and projection machine. The Roxy was one of the very few theaters west of the Mississippi with the modern equipment.

Thomas Irvine House

The home was built in 1902 by Thomas Irvine. Mr. Irvine crossed the plains in 1853 at the age of 11 and came with his parents to Logan in 1860. He served as alderman and on the Logan City Council.

Thomas Ray Bell was of Richmond, Utah. This photo is included in a collection of early LDS mission photographs taken in England. They were found amongst other materials which were donated to the Logan Library as part of the Everton Collection. If you know something about the person pictured, please let us know.

This home was built in the 1860’s by Thomas Tarbet. Mr. Tarbet came to Utah in 1847 and died in Logan in 1872.

Tropical plant exhibit from the greenhouses at Utah Agricultural College (now USU). It was arranged by Carl Wuthrich. This exhibit was part of an activity in the library by the Logan Flower Garden Club.

Union Pacific Challenger Engine

In the spring of 1982 this old steam engine came down out of Weber Canyon. The Challenger engines were built between 1936 and 1944. There were a total of 105 constructed that ran lines throughout the Union Pacific Railroad system. They are sometimes incorrectly called a "Big Boy" engine, but this nickname is more properly given to a subsequent locomotive design.

Union Roller Mill

The Union Roller Mill was built in 1865 and was later renamed the Thatcher Milling & Elevator Company. In 1888 the millstones in the Thatcher Mill were discarded and steel rollers were installed with an elevator with the capacity of 40,000 of bushels of grain. At the right of the photo is the East Building of the Brigham Young College.
