Has it been cold outside?
clear

This time of year, we often hear conversation about the temperatures, usually exclaiming about how cold it has been. Cache Valley has a reputation in Utah of being rather cold. This might lead someone to ask: what are normal temperatures one can expect in Cache Valley?

As it happens, over the past month it actually has been colder than the multiyear average. On December 9 the low temperature was -14°F, compared to the average for that day of 18°F, a difference of 32°F. We also had a cold spell that lasted from December 3 to December 19, 17 consecutive days with cooler than average low temperatures. Additionally, 81% of the days in December had lower than average low temperatures.

This and historical statistics can be found on our Community Profile page.

Logan Mayoral Election
clear

As has happened 36 times in the past, Logan residents have chosen themselves a new mayor. On November 5th, H. Craig Petersen was elected to start a four year term in January.

Wonder who our past mayors were? Check out a database, maintained by our library staff. Short bios are available for the deceased former mayors.

If you have any suggestions or additions, please feel free to come in and speak to us or contact me.

Obituary/Newspaper Article Lookups
clear

Family or personal history researchers often contact us with lookup requests for obituaries or historic newspaper articles. The staff and volunteers of the special collections are happy to conduct a search and make copies.

Because there is not an index to our newspaper archive, we require a starting point to begin our search. In the case of obituaries, we normally search the week of newspapers after an individual's death. The library only charges for this service if the request includes a large number of copied pages.

If you would like to submit a lookup request, please fill out the online form.
