Logan Sanborn Maps Now Available
The Logan Library recently acquired a full set of Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps for Logan City, including the years 1885, 1890, 1900, 1930, and 1955. The maps have been supplied to us by the University of Utah.
Originally used by fire fighters to estimate the potential risk for urban structures, Sanborn maps are well known by family historians and researchers of local history to include incredible details about each building in a city. They aid the researcher to understand the history, growth, and development of Logan. The maps include information such as the outline of each building, the size, shape and construction materials, heights, and function of structures, location of windows and doors. The maps also give street names, street and sidewalk widths, property boundaries, building use, and house and block numbers.
Ask at the Logan Library Reference Desk to use this important new resource.
